Fall is a great time to get out and enjoy not only the weather, but the cool happenings in our area. Lots of bird species migrate through our region in the fall. There are many opportunities to view the birds with a group or by yourself at the many parks and preserves in Delaware.

• Hawkwatch is happening at the Ashland Nature Center, headquarters of the Delaware Nature Society, through November 30. All are welcome to visit Hawkwatch Hill and help spot migrating raptors such as Hawks and Eagles. The public are welcome to drop in at any time. If you are lucky and hit the right conditions, you can enjoy the sight of dozens (sometimes hundreds!) of migrating hawks filling the air.

• DNS also hosts Bird Walks every Sunday at Bucktoe Creek Preserve, 342 Sharp Road in Avondale. 8am to 10:30am.
• Join DNS staff for Bird Banding at Bucktoe Creek Preserve every Wednesday morning.
• Tri State Bird Rescue is holding their Nest Fest on Saturday September 19. This is a great way to view the behind the scenes work that the staff and volunteers help the birds. Wild Birds Unlimited-Hockessin is a proud sponsor of this event.
• The next meeting of the Delaware Ornithology Society will be on Wednesday September 16. The topic will be Dowitcher Identification. The meeting will be held at the Delaware Museum of Nature and -Science from 7-9pm.
• The Delaware Nature Society will be holding a Native Plant Sale of Saturday September 19 at their Coverdale Farm location off of Way Road.
