Does it seem like your backyard squirrels have the super hero ability to defeat every idea you come up with to thwart them? They are several methods to stop squirrels from eating all your bird seed and for each yard there may be a different solution.
- The most full proof method is to install a baffle on a pole. This works if the pole setup is located a good 8 feet from anything a squirrel could possibly leap from. The top of the baffle must be 5 feet above the ground. The bottom of all feeders must be 5 feet off the ground. If your pole is too short or too close to a potential launching spot this method will not work for you. Most shepherd's crooks are too short to accommodate a baffle and feeders at the right height. The Wild Birds Unlimited APS Pole System is designed to easily go in the ground and be built tall enough to work with a baffle. You can then have up to 5 feeders on one pole that are out of the reach of the squirrels.
- If your yard doesn't have a perfect location for a pole and baffle you can choose one of our Squirrel-proof feeders. The feeders use either the body weight or size of the squirrel to work against his getting to the bird food. Some have weighted perches that close off the seed from the squirrel. Some have cages around the whole feeder that prevents the squirrel from getting to the feeder.
- Wild Birds Unlimited also carries a variety of food products that are manufactured with Hot Pepper infused in them. We carry both bird seed and suet that has hot pepper mixed with it. We also have many of our founder's Jim Carpenter Bark Butter products that have a Hot Pepper flavor. Including Bark Butter Bits and Bark Butter; a spreadable suet that allows every tree to become a feeder. We also carry Hot Pepper Seed and Suet Cylinders.
Wherever you live we have a solution to make your feeders squirrel proof. Stop in today and ask us how.
